Publicity

From the Alberta Classic Discussion:
I don't know if anyone ever look at the Edm Journal online? They had a link to what they called the goosecam and it was on the nest all the time......MANY people posted comments about it and if that same thing could be done with a nesting pair of pigeons - I am sure it would be a BIG HIT and very good for the sport. The only thing I can see is that after the babies hatch.....the nest area should be kept clean ( + - 4 times a day.....just to make it look clean.

I have talked about this with Karl - and he informs me that the expence of a flowing video etc....might add up to the thousands......However, I do believe that MANY ONLINE journals and local papers would be happy to put a link on their websites for such a thing....The geese are a big hit with people and to be honest most of it is her sitting on the nest....If a pigeon nest was used to the time of weaning there would be a great deal of action and I am sure it would be a big hit for our sport.
If the CU wants to sponsor something that could be very helpful....this might be the thing to do.
Here is the link to the goose story........they must have put film and the clips of the nest together........to give this story.....
I think if we could do it for pigeons......we could reach many, many people and lots of kids......We could not get better free advertising.

There is one loft that has attempted to do just that:

I am not sure if it was for a one-time event, my browser capabilities were such that I couldn't view the cam, but maybe you can.

Not sure if it was a one time event either but it did not work that good .
With today's technology it should be possible to get it done , it depends on what people might be most interested in .
Video of a nest box watching a mated pair have eggs and then raise the young or birds coming home from a race ?
Here is a link to a site in Holland where they show live on line clocking and a live video feed to go along with it .
There are 3 different lofts at this time that are doing it including a friend of mine Andre v.d. Wiel ( Comb. v.d. Wiel - Schreuder )
It is only on on race day , I will try and post the approximate expected arrival time so people can take a look .

Hello Tom

Thank you for your suggestion.
I think we have to realise that the average person has a different attitude towards pigeons then they do geese. So perhaps the answer is not to copy the goosecam but to create our own unique form of positive advertising. If the video is the approach we take, then perhaps an edited version displaying the positive aspects of a nesting pair taken over a two month period would be more feasible and shed a brighter light. Another idea could be showing a family involved in the interaction with their pigeons. I recall seeing a phothgraph of Connie and Chris Steacy's grand-daughter holding one of their young pigeon. The expression on her face goes a long way to change attitudes.
There are many more ideas out there that can stem from your suggestion Tom.Thank you
